Trinidad, Sancti Spíritus, Cuba

Trinidad old city panoramic view - Trinidad, Sancti Spíritus, Cuba

Trinidad was founded by conquistador Diego Velázquez in 1514. It has a romantic atmosphere mixed with the colonial past of slavery, unique architecture and a maze of narrow cobblestone streets. Declared a National Monument by the Cuban Government and a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987, this city is very much as it was four centuries ago. The beauty of its baroque architecture and cobblestone squares harks back to a bygone era when Trinidad was a key player in the Caribbean slave trade. It also boasts the spectacular Valle de los Ingenios, a unique Sugar Mill Valley.
