Description

The Cienaga de Zapata, has tourist trails very visited by Cubans and foreigners, who come to this place to appreciate the rich landscape, and exchange with the inhabitants. According to experts, birdwatching tourism is very important in the country and is becoming more and more addictive due to the variety of both migratory and endemic bird species that arrive in our territory.

Without a doubt, the Ciénaga de Zapata is a perfect setting for this type of tour. We will depart from Playa Larga Hotel or another place defined for this activity. We will make land tours until we reach the destination places where the trails begin in the means of transport available to the TTOO or the clients.

Once in the birding area, participants will be organized into two groups of up to 10 people each during the days of greatest demand, always accompanied by a specialized guide. The tours have an estimated duration of 3 hours, returning to the initial starting point (hotel or other accommodation sites).

Area Values

The Ciénaga de Zapata is one of the most unique sites in Cuba, where several types of swamp ecosystems are grouped together, either moderately or slightly modified by human action. Low, swampy and semi-swampy plains predominate over peaty deposits and limestone rocks, with hydromorphic soils and natural savannah vegetation of high aesthetic and landscape value, such as the Laguna del Tesoro and the Hatiguanico River basin, the main river artery in the area, as well as Playa Larga and Playa Girón.

As a whole, the vegetation of the Ciénaga de Zapata constitutes one of the most important green areas in Cuba and, because of the very species of flora and fauna it shelters, it represents a place of world interest. Visiting the place is undoubtedly an extraordinary adventure for nature and life lovers. Taking care of it means a vital and unmatched responsibility.
