Scuba Diving Tour in Bahía de Cochinos

The Zapata Peninsula is considered one of the most beautiful areas for diving in Cuba, for its seabed and marine caverns. It is located south of the province of Matanzas and is one of the most peculiar geographical areas of the country. This diving area can be used all year round, since it is sheltered from the bad weather conditions brought by the cold fronts from the north during the winter season. Its special charm is due to the large colonies of different types of coral, among which there is an abundance of black coral; a great variety of sponges with yellow, violet or orange color, with barrel, tubular, basket and cup shapes. There is also a diverse marine flora, large gorgonians and abundant tropical fish. But the real singularity of Playa Giron are its wrecks, as well as the practice of speleodiving in the cenotes and flooded caves, its vertical walls of more than 40 meters.

Diving in the open sea, in cenotes and flooded caves of brackish water linked to the speleolacustrine system of the Zapata Swamp, as well as multilevel diving are the exclusivity of this area. The dives are made directly from the shore, where you can immediately see elkhorn corals, brain corals, leaf corals, star corals, sea fans, as well as a variety of fish species. When you reach the reef about 100 m from the coast, another great attraction appears, the abrupt wall with depths of up to 80 m and more, where you can find sponges, gorgonians and large corals.
