"Las Delicias Trail" tour, Las Terrazas

Description

The community of Las Terrazas is located in the Sierra del Rosario, province of Artemisa, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1985. When you arrive you are surrounded by evergreen forests, rivers and waterfalls with crystal clear water, fresh breezes and birds singing, a rural environment that invites you to enjoy nature tourism. How can you visit and be part of this environment? Well, we have designed a series of routes along various trails located in Las Terrazas that will allow you to enter this fascinating natural environment.

Sendero Las Delicias:

3 km route around the hill of Las Delicias until you reach the viewpoint of Valle del San Juan where you can appreciate the unparalleled views of the community of Las Terrazas from this viewpoint located 330 meters above sea level. Finally, we descend 1500 meters to the Buenavista coffee plantation to learn about its history and the development of coffee in the first half of the 19th century in the region.

Area Values

The Sendero Las Delicias is located in the Sierra del Rosario, this place has a variety of geological formations, vegetation and a wide diversity of natural, historical and cultural resources.

The reserve presents a high variety of ecosystems and habitats, which condition its flora and fauna. The diversity of plant formations and the floral richness of the territory, favors the abundance and variety of fauna: birds with 117 species from 30 families of these 12 endemic, reptiles with 33 species and 81.8 endemism, 16 species of amphibians with 81.7 endemism.

The flora has a total of 889 plant organisms, grouped in 608 upper plants and 281 lower plants with 11 endemism, although there are areas that reach up to 34. There is an endemic and monotypic genus of pine trees: Phyllomelia (Rubiacea), only documented worldwide for Cajálbana and Sierra del Rosario.

Itinerary

• Reception and welcome cocktail with brief explanation of the Project.
• Walk through the hill of Las Delicias until you reach the viewpoint of the San Juan Valley.
• Descend to the Buenavista coffee plantation to learn about its history
• Picnic lunch depending on the chosen modality.
