"Humboldt Park" Tour

The Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, a protected area in Cuba, is located in the provinces of Holguin and Guantanamo.

Natural values:

It is geologically formed by basic and ultra-basic igneous rocks (transformed remains of ancient oceanic crust) of Cretaceous age, continuously emerged at least 40 million years ago, which constitute one of the oldest evolutionary massifs in the Caribbean. The levels of biodiversity and endemism in the Park are the highest in the Antilles and are among the highest in the world. This site is one of the main evolutionary centers, biogeographic bridge and Miocene - Pleistocene refuge site (mainly in the glacial epoch) of the Caribbean and American biota. The main types of vegetation (by extension and endemism) are the forests, represented here by all their Cuban variants and that reach their climax in the low altitude pluvisilva, the pine forests and the xeromorphic subspinous scrubs on serpentine (Charrascales). The rainforests of this zone are part of the boreal limit of the American jungles, and the thickets have the highest percentage of vegetal endemism in the Antilles (80%) and one of the highest in the world at the level of vegetal formation.

Itinerary:

• Departure from the meeting point in Baracoa to Alejandro de Humboldt National Park.
• Entrance to the park and visit to the Balcony of Iberia trail (7 km) where a specialized guide will help you get in touch with a virgin nature.
• Visit to a waterfall and swimming in its crystalline waters.
• On the way back, visit to the Maguana beach which has the most beautiful white sands of the area with its coral reef barrier.
• Return to the hotels.
