Description

Close to the Hotel Horizontes Soroa in the province of Artemisa, a cultural project is being developed, known as "The Mountain and I", which is closely linked to the local history, roots, traditions and customs of the inhabitants of that area.

The project has as a background the work of socio-cultural promotion developed in the mountain communities of difficult access in the municipality of Candelaria, in the same has played a leading role, in terms of rescue and conservation of traditions and customs that characterize the peasant families in the area, is something like a refuge of Maroon wisdom, a black root that refreshes and leads to the Afro-Cuban culture.

This project acquires its own life by carrying out different activities aimed at all people interested in approaching the place, but mainly children and the community, through the realization of circles of interest in local history, culinary art, gender workshops, peasant clubs and others.

Within this project a place called Patio Cimarron was created, this place is a culinary shelter of the Cimarron and Mambisa culture, ecological and healthy meals are prepared and many of the foods can be found in a home garden located in the same place, most of these dishes are made with wood or coal. The sweet potato bread, the seasoned flour, the cod and the most representative the Cuban Ajiaco, among many others, stand out. They are served in the same way in handcrafted vessels such as the jícara. It also has a corner of peasant traditions with many pieces that are protecting the memory of the inhabitants of the place.

It is an enjoyable place to visit and entertain as well as to acquire knowledge, since the interested visitor can also count on a bibliography related to subjects concerning local history and traditions. In short, it is a place where the visitor can feel attracted to the conservation of tradition and history in a rustic and natural environment.
